Make the connections work
Getting Around Morocco
Choose transport for the route, not the other way round. Rail, coach, taxis and a carefully planned road journey each solve a different problem.

01 / The starting point
Plan door to door.
Not station to station.
A transport timetable tells you only part of the journey. Add the trip to the station, waiting time, luggage and the final route to your accommodation. In a medina, the taxi may stop at a gate while the room lies several lanes away. That last part matters, especially at night or with children.
Rail is a useful backbone for many major-city journeys. Coaches extend the network; taxis handle local trips; a driver or rental car can make sense for dispersed places and mountain or oasis routes. Choose the simplest combination that fits your actual stops.
Give every transfer a beginning and an end
For each move, write three lines: how you reach the departure point, the main journey and how you reach the next room. Add the names and addresses to the same note. If one line is unresolved, the transfer is not yet planned, even when the main ticket is booked. Ask accommodation hosts about the practical arrival point rather than assuming a vehicle can reach the door.
Compare alternatives by the whole day they consume. A direct connection that arrives awkwardly may be less useful than a different departure that leaves room to settle in. Keep the next activity optional until the transfer is complete. This gives a delay somewhere to go without turning the rest of the itinerary into a chain of missed commitments.

02 / Transport choices
Choose the right tool for each stage.
Check the operator’s live information for your date. Suggested route logic does not replace a ticket or a confirmed transfer.
- For connected city stays
Train
Use ONCF for current routes, fares and booking. Al Boraq serves Tangier, Kenitra, Rabat Agdal and Casa Voyageurs; onward journeys may use other trains. Do not assume every major destination has high-speed service or that a connection shown for another date will apply to yours.

Coach & local transfer
Compare Supratours and CTM services, departure points, luggage rules and arrival locations. A bus station outside the medina means another transfer. For a local taxi, confirm that the vehicle and fare arrangement are clear before setting off.

Driver or rental car
A car is useful when the route includes dispersed places, but less useful inside a medina. Check licence requirements for your nationality, insurance, deposit, fuel terms and parking. For a driver, agree daily stages, stops, accommodation arrangements and what the quoted price includes.

03 / A closer look
The transfer day needs its own space.
An early train can leave you tired at the start of a day; a late coach can complicate check-in. Choose a connection that works for the whole group, then tell your host when and where you will arrive. Keep a contact method available even if mobile data fails.
For flights and ferries, distinguish the named city from the actual terminal. A comfortable buffer is especially important after a long road stage or a mountain crossing. Build the final journey home before adding another sightseeing stop.
04 / Make it work for you
Resolve the practical details.
Tickets & luggage
Check change conditions, seat arrangements and luggage rules directly. Keep a usable offline copy of the booking and the correct station or stop name.
Night or daylight?
Prefer daylight for unfamiliar road routes where possible. Mountain weather, poor visibility and fatigue can alter a journey; leave room to change the plan.
Accessibility
Ask about station access, steps, lifts, vehicle entry and the last stretch to the room. A general claim of convenience is not enough for a specific mobility need.
05 / Your next moves
Check each connection once, properly.
