01 / The starting point

A northern journey
with a coastal finish.

This ten-night example gives Tangier a full introduction, protects Tetouan from becoming a lunch stop and allows a proper Chefchaouen stay before the longer move east. Al Hoceima then becomes a place to rest and explore, rather than the endpoint of a rushed drive.

It is most comfortable when your onward travel from Al Hoceima is arranged in advance. If your international departure is from Tangier, add a return night and the necessary transfer time, or remove the eastern extension. Do not assume the final road journey can be squeezed into a flight day.

Let the return shape the route

Draw the complete loop or one-way journey, including the place from which you will leave Morocco. Compare the final coast stop with that departure, not only with the preceding town. An attractive last destination can create an awkward ending if the return journey has not been included.

Give Tangier, Tétouan, Chefchaouen and the coast distinct roles rather than treating them as interchangeable photo stops. Use the regional guide to choose where to slow down. If the final road stage would consume time you hoped to spend outside, shorten the route and preserve the quality of the stays.

02 / Shape your journey

Ten nights across the north.

A suggested rhythm to adapt around your arrival, interests and energy. Check transport and access before you book.

  1. Days 1–3 · 3 nights
The city and waterfront above the port in Tangier

    Tangier

Arrive and learn the neighbourhood. Use one full day for the kasbah and a cultural visit, and another for the waterfront or a carefully chosen outing. If you want Asilah, use that third day and verify your return connection.

    Explore Tangier
  2. Days 4–5 · 2 nights
White buildings and a palm tree beside Tetouan's open square

    Tetouan

Move by road and give the next day to Tetouan. Ask about guided medina or craft visits if those are your interests. Keep a coastal outing optional; adding it should not remove the only full day in the city.

    Explore Tetouan
  3. Days 6–7 · 2 nights
Blue walls, steps and potted plants in a Chefchaouen lane

    Chefchaouen

Arrive, settle and take a small first walk. The full day can combine early lanes, a long pause and a later viewpoint if conditions suit. Respect residential doors and steps: a popular photograph does not make a home public space.

    Explore Chefchaouen
  4. Days 8–11 · 3 nights
Al Hoceima buildings above the sheltered Mediterranean bay

    Al Hoceima

Treat day eight as the longer road stage. Confirm the route, departure time and arrival arrangement. Days nine and ten can mix town and coast, with sea activities chosen around current conditions. Day eleven is for your verified onward connection.

03 / A closer look

The return route decides the final night.

A linear route looks clean on a map, but flights and transport may make a loop more sensible. Compare the real cost and time of leaving from Al Hoceima with returning to Tangier. Service availability changes by date and season.

If returning west takes most of a day, add it visibly to the plan. The same applies to a ferry: terminal, check-in requirements and transfer distance belong in the schedule. An overnight gateway buffer is usually more comfortable than a last-minute race across the north.

04 / Make it work for you

Keep the road days realistic.

Direct coach or private transfer?

Check whether a direct service operates on your date. A transfer can offer flexibility, but agree the route, luggage allowance, stops and total price in advance.

City time or beach time?

The ten-night allocation balances both. If the coast is your priority, add to Al Hoceima; if medinas and museums matter more, keep the eastern extension for another visit.

Summer demand

Book the exact coastal location you want and ask about parking or pickup access. A room described as “near Al Hoceima” can produce a very different daily journey.
